Lessons - Double Bass Drum Control

BIOGRAPHY

I want to thank all of you who sent me e-mails in response to my first web lesson. I would also like to thank my students for spreading the word about my website.

After my first lesson, I received a lot of questions about doublebass drumming. For those of you new to doublebass drumming, I believe the following six exercises will help you get started on the right track.

One of the biggest things overlooked is posture. When playing single bass patterns there is a tendency to lean on the left leg, using it as an anchor, even though we are playing the hi hat. When playing a doublebass pattern there will be a point when both feet are off the ground. Make sure you are sitting straight and have a good center of gravity. If you are not sitting straight, this will cause your left foot to sound weak and not have the correct feel.

As with any lesson, start out slow, be sure to play to a click, and always count. If you have any questions, please feel free to send me an e-mail. Thanks for visiting my website and happy drumming!

God Bless,
Bart
